Anthony’s Top Picks: The NYC Bloody Mary

THE CITY’S BEST BLOODY MARYS, ACCORDING TO CHEF CONCIERGE ANTHONY BOSCO

If there’s one thing I’m an expert on, it’s bloody marys. The marriage of vodka with the many bloody mixtures and accoutrements makes my mouth water. Here, a few of my favorites in NYC.

Jacob’s Pickles (Upper West) — Bloody BLT

The Bloody BLT at this Southern comfort-food joint is bursting with flavor and texture. It’s super-spicy and comes with half of a deviled egg, bacon and a piece of lettuce. I’m a sucker for anything served in a mason jar.

Dante (West Village) — All Day Bloody Mary

The bloody at this century-old Greenwich Village bar is served with a cold-pressed juice mixture, but what gives it real flavor is the fennel salt that rims the glass. The entire bar is wrapped in beautiful white title and has large windows that make for great people-watching.

King Cole Bar at the St. Regis (Midtown East) — The Red Snapper

There is something so iconically New York about this bar: the beautiful mural, the name of its bloody (The Red Snapper), which was said to have been chosen because it was a more “proper” choice. Fernand Petiot, the creator of the bloody mary, brought it to the St. Regis in the early 1930s. It’s a been a staple ever since — a classic bloody mary that a packs a punch, is always a “double” and is simply garnished with black pepper and celery.

Bespoke Kitchen (West Village) — Mary’s Walk of Shame

This is my official “hair of the dog” selection. It’s called Mary’s Walk of Shame and is certainly the most over-the-top bloody mary I have ever experienced. It’s a classic bloody topped with maple sausage, a slab of bacon and a mini grilled cheese sandwich (yes, a mini grilled cheese sandwich) — not for the faint of heart.

Charlie Palmer Steak at Archer Hotel (Garment District) — Mary’s Envy

Mary’s Envy is our in-house bloody mary and certainly the best of the garment district. The mix is created with roasted tomatillos and infused with jalapeño. The amazing twist is that we offer it made with your choice of vodka or tequila!
