Best Lobster Rolls In + Around Burlington

Must. Have. Lobstah. Roll.

When in New England, friends. There’s no shortage of lobster rolls on menus across the region — and for good reason. The lobsters are typically straight off the boat, the ingredients are simple and the locals have perfected a myriad of recipes.

Do you prefer the traditional cold roll with mayo and celery? Or do you have a hankering for the Connecticut/Naked roll served warm on a toasted roll with drawn butter? Following (and meant to tempt) are a few of Archer’s favorite lobster rolls near Archer Hotel Burlington and in the greater Boston area.

In + around Burlington, Massachusetts

  • Legal C Foods in Burlington and Legal C Bar in Lynnfield (along with around 20 locations throughout New England) serves a half-pound Maine lobster roll — either warm butter-poached or traditional — with lemon mayo, French fries and coleslaw.
  • The Lobster Shanty in Salem offers a roll with 6 ounces of lobster served in a buttered, toasted roll, with a choice of side. The Traditional is served chilled, with the lobster tossed lightly with a lemon-mayo and diced celery on a bed of lettuce. The Connecticut Style is served warm, with lobster tossed in sweet butter.
  • Turner’s Seafood got its start in 1920 when James F. Turner emigrated from Newfoundland to Boston. In Salem’s Turner’s Seafood at Lyceum Hall, guests choose from a cold Maine Style lobster roll with celery and mayo and a hot Connecticut Style lobster roll served with drawn butter. Both come with a choice of two sides.

Casting the net a bit farther out

  • Blue Collar Lobster Co. at The Gloucester House has been dishing up delicious seafood since 1957. The serve their lobster rolls cold with mayonnaise and celery, as well as warm, sauteed in butter. Both are served with lettuce, tomato and potato chips.
  • The Barking Crab is a Boston favorite, with “a casual atmosphere of a coastal clam shack in a funky urban setting.” Their Traditional (cold) and Naked (warm) lobster rolls come with fries, slaw and a pickle.
  • The Beach Plum in Portsmouth New Hampshire won “Best Lobster Roll” at the Hampton Seafood Festival. Served Beach Style with potato chips, you choose the amount of lobster (between 4 and 10 ounces!) and can substitute the chips with French fries, sweet potato fries or onions.
  • Petey’s Summertime Seafood & Bar in Rye, New Hampshire, catches their own lobsters — that’s fresh. Open year-round, they’ve had their lobster roll voted the best by Seacoast Magazine. Get the regular or jumbo roll, served with French fries, pickles and lettuce.
