How to Spend a Day on Lake Travis
Start your sizzling summer off right by beating the heat with a day on Austin’s favorite, Lake Travis. This massive lake offers adventurous zip lines, serene spas and the best boating in Texas. Offering something for everyone, keep reading for our favorite ways to spend a day.
Take a Splash: Krause Springs + Deep Eddy Pool
Beat the heat the natural way in Krause Springs. With 32 springs and several natural splash pools, there are options when choosing where to jump in. Or take a dip in the oldest swimming pool in the state of Texas — Deep Eddy Pool. While there, be sure to check out the bathhouse built during the 1920s.
Catch a Sunset: The Oasis + Lucy's on the Lake
The Oasis lives up to its name. When the bell rings at sunset, grab your phone, look up and you will see why it’s known as the “The Sunset Capital of Texas.” The waterside addition of Lucy’s Fried Chicken is another great spot catch the beautiful end-of-day views. With sunny drinks and succulent food, it’s the perfect way to cap off the day.
Be adventurous: Zip line + HELO Tours
For the adventurous at heart, embark on a three-hour, five zip line tour of Lake Travis with Zipline Adventures. The thrills are no joke — you’ll be telling friends about it for years. Or soar through the skies a different way with HELO Austin Helicopter Tours. Be sure to have your camera ready for the ever-so-scenic views of Texas Hill County — these Insta-worthy shots are one of a kind.
Be a beach bum + wander at a waterpark: Hippie Hollow + Volente Beach
Sun your buns at Hippie Hollow — Texas’ only “clothing optional” beach (must be 18 years+). Bring good shoes if you want the terrific views of Lake Travis — you’ll have to hike. A family-friendly thrill is close by at Volente Beach Waterpark. Kids can explore a large pirate ship, wade out into the pool or take a spin on the diverse array of slides and rides. Bring a towel and don’t forget the sunscreen.
Rent a boat: Emerald Point + Lakeway Marina
What better way is there to spend the day on the lake than in a boat? Lakeway Marina has been kicking off a variety of boating and Jet Ski adventures since the 1960s. Gather your most-fun friends and rent a party barge from Emerald Point Marina. These large double-decked boats are great for parties of up to 50 and even come with a slide from the upper deck. We highly recommend reserving before you arrive.
Eats + Treats: Sundancer Grill + Gnarly Gar
Keep the lakeside vibes going — boat over and refuel at Sundancer Grill. Its massive burgers, weekly specials and catfish fillets are something to write home about. The Gnarly Gar is a floating restaurant and bar, fuel dock, ship store and live music venue with two bars and a private bar and balcony. Peel-and-eat shrimp pair well with a cold brew and a cool view.
Treat yourself: Lakeway Resort and Spa + The LakeHouse Spa at Lake Austin Spa and Resort
Enjoy the tranquility and relaxation of the lake without the engines and wakes at Lakeway Resort and Spa. Offering full-service spa treatments with views over iconic Lake Travis, enjoy an unparalleled view from its outdoor terrace overlooking the entire area. A sanctuary spa that caters to those looking for a quieter life, The LakeHouse Spa at Lake Austin Spa and Resort focuses on comprehensive rejuvenation.
