Best live music venues Austin

Get your groove on in Austin

With more live music per capita than anywhere else on the planet, Austin, The Live Music Capital of the World, offers countless places to catch a show. With so many hip-shaking options, we cut through the noise to give you the absolute best spots for live music.

01

Elephant Room

This quintessential Austin Jazz club radiates cool. Brick walls, low ceilings and a stage steps from the audience mix with the dimmed lights for a speakeasy vibe. Despite the intimate space, the atmosphere is laid-back and the noise level allows for quiet conversation. If you happen to stop by on one of their sporadic “jam nights”, you might just end up on stage for an impromptu jam session.

The Continental Club

This rockin’ music hall is one of the longest running in all of Austin (open since 1955). With icons like Stevie Ray Vaughan, George Strait and Janice Joplin gracing the stage it's not hard to see why. The wide array of musicians that come through make it a venue for any music lover, regardless of taste.

Ballroom at Spider House

Ballroom at Spider House is Austin-funky at its finest. With a lineup of comedy, poetry slams and a sprinkling of Austin’s most loved local bands this spot caters to all. Despite all the talent on stage, the venue steals the show. Christmas lights, a third-story tattoo parlor and a Japanese street truck serving up bar food are just the start of your discoveries at Spider House.

Moody Theater

An Austin staple, the three story, 2,750 person music venue hosts 100 concerts a year and is home to Austin City Limits—the longest running music series in American history. Bringing in the biggest acts in Austin, Ed Sheeran, Ringo Starr, and Harry Styles are only a portion of the stars that’ll perform this year. Chances are if your favorite band is touring and coming to Austin—this is where they’ll be.

Broken Spoke

Cozied up between two new condo buildings, “The last great honky-tonk” looks out of place. But, step inside the doors and you’ll find an altar to the authentic Austin. Cement floors, low ceilings and some of the best live music you’ll ever hear make this hallowed ground for two-stepping.
